Plywood structure

March 27, 2010
Above is a view of the west, southwest side of the primitive house. We're pretty excited about the completed porta potty! ;)
The trusses are sitting in the driveway, waiting for Monday. The front door will be the opening on the left of the photo; the smaller door to the right will open to the mudroom. We are beginning to be able to see the balcony off of the master bedroom on the second level on the far right of the picture.
I took this one standing in the to-be-driveway facing south, southeast. Come on spring!

End of March progress

March 27, 2010
The trusses arrived today, but have not yet been placed atop the second level. A thunderstorm yesterday reminded us that March can still keep us guessing by dropping rain, hail, and very plump snowflakes! Fortunately the mess resulted in negligible accumulation, but enough of a storm to slow ease of construction.

During the storm, we met with a supplier and chose internal and external doors, baseboard, and door knobs. Since learning of the official recording of our previous house, we can be excited about these appointments without reservation. This is reality!

Nick and I stopped by the site today on a beautiful, blue Utah afternoon.

The photo above was taken north of the front door, through the foyer. The staircases will be on the left. Sunshine on the south side driveway and sidewalk will assist us in snow management....less shoveling.

The above snapshot is of the study taken toward the southwest while standing in the entry.

End of March progress

March 23, 2010

The house is coming along. Quite a few of the rooms have been 'walled in' with plywood, which has helped us to get a feel for the space.

We signed closing paperwork for the 9th and 9th house this afternoon! Tomorrow it should be recorded and funded..

Two levels

March 20, 2010

Stairs! Who knew how exciting stairs can be!? Even though there is absolutely nothing to see or do in the basement, the fact that we can 'go downstairs' seems like a big step in construction!

Bones of the kitchen

March 20, 2010
Ceiling beams and some of the interior walls have gone up in the last few days! This is a view from the great room looking into the kitchen. The door way opens up to the mudroom and bathroom on the first floor.

Garages

March 17, 2010

The garages are being established. No more curbside parking for the Link's! We have yet to establish who will park closest to the mudroom door, but I think odds are in my favor...

Walls and windows

March 10, 2010

This shot looks eastward to the Wasatch Range through the great room. A fireplace will occupy the middle of the near wall...use your imagination.

Above ground!

March 8, 2010

Walls!!! We've had some sunny days and that's allowed for the house to take more of a shape---above ground!

The photo on the left will be the kitchen, and the right will be the mudroom and garage on the other side of the immediate wall.

Foundation

March 3, 2010

The foundation has been poured and framing has started on the basement. After five months of considering the possibility of building a home, the initiation of construction is hard to believe.

This photo looks into the basement great room on the left and stairway in the lower right. A bed and bath will fill the space in the top right of the photo.

9th & 9th

At the beginning of next week, Nick and I officially sell our first home at 819 E 900 S.

We will miss the charm and convenience of our 9th and 9th neighborhood and our 100+ year old house ....the site of our engagement, Lu's and Stella's first house, my first garden, a kitchen remodel, and a great place to call home....

During the fall of 2009, Nick stumbled upon a lot in East Millcreek of Salt Lake City. And after a few months of negotiations, coupled with
Nick's persistence and creativity, we're taking the construction leap!

With the help of Nick's best friend, Mike, and his family's construction company, we are building our second home. I've started this blog not only to allow friends and family at a distance to follow along with the progress, but also for our own documentation of, what we anticipate to be, a lot of fun!

And I thought planning a wedding was a big deal...
